Stevie's older brother, Jimmie Vaughan moves to Austin to make it as a blues guitarist. Stevie soon follows. Jimmie gains notoriety with his band The Fabulous Thunderbirds. |

Stevie forms Triple Threat - a band that will eventually evolve into Double Trouble |

Chris "Whipper" Layton joins the band as drummer after they change their name to Double Trouble. |

'Stevie and Double Trouble's live set at 1874 Steamboat is recorded for radio broadcast. The tape is later issued on the CD "In The Beginning" after Stevie's death. |

Tommy Shannon joins Double Trouble as bassist. |

Stevie and DT play the Montreux Jazz Festival in Europe. They are the first unsigned band to play the festival. Initial crowd reaction was not warm. David Bowie and Jackson Browne caught the performance and introduced themselves to the band. The show is released on CD and DVD in 2004 along with the 1985 Montreux performance. |

The band travels to Los Angeles to record at Jackson Browne's studio. David Bowie asks Stevie to play guitar on his album Let's Dance. David asks Stevie to join his band for the "Serious Moonlight Tour". Just before the tour left for the first show, Stevie quits due to contractual disputes. Apparently the contract put forth by David Bowie did not allow Stevie to talk about his own career or Double Trouble. The tour would have lasted a minimum of 12 months, which would have kept Stevie away from Double Trouble. Stevie had offered to pay Tommy and Chris out of his proceeds from the Bowie tour so they would have a source of income while Stevie was away. Stevie decides to go for broke with Double Trouble and abandons the Bowie tour. |
| 1983 |
Producer John Hammond, hears the band's LA studio recordings. The band is signed to Epic records and their debut album "Texas Flood" is released. |
| 1983-1986 |
Stevie and DT tour and record 2 more studio albums and a live album. Drug and alcohol use becomes a mainstay on tour and in the studio. Stevie's use eventually puts his health in jeopardy and he collapses. Stevie seeks help for his addictions. He becomes clean and sober for the remainder of his life. |
| 1989 |
The band releases their third studio album. The first to be recorded sober. |
| 1990 |
Stevie and brother Jimmie record the album "Family Style". It is not released until later that year. |
| August 26-27, 1990 |
Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble along with Jimmie Vaughan, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy and Robert Cray play concerts in Alpine Valley, Wisconsin. |

Stevie Ray Vaughan and other tour personnel are tragically killed in a helicopter crash after the Alpine Valley concert. |
